Daily Diary Log

For our testers

Thank you for testing Daily Diary Log

You're among the first people to use it. Your honest opinion, good and bad, will shape the app before it opens to everyone.

Use it for real

For about two weeks, keep your actual diary in it: the garden, a trip, the grandkids, whatever you get up to.

Try the list below

Along the way, try each thing on the checklist. No need to do them all at once, or in order.

Tell us how it went

At the end, fill in the form on this page. There are no wrong answers, and "I couldn't work it out" is just as useful as "easy".

How I'm using it — John

I'd love to hear what you end up using it for. There's a question about it in the form below.

Getting started

  1. Open the app: Open Daily Diary Log or type app.dailydiarylog.com
  2. Sign in with Continue with Google, or type your email and tap Send my sign-in link. The email has a button to tap, and also a 6-digit code you can copy and paste into the page (then tap Sign in with code) if that is easier.
  3. On your phone, put it on your home screen so it opens like an app. How to do that
  4. Stuck at any point? The Help page has step-by-step pictures, or email hello@dailydiarylog.com (or write it in Gmail).

The checklist

After you've tried each one, tap how it went. If something was tricky, a few words about what happened help a lot.

1. Sign in

With Google, or with the email link (or the 6-digit code in the email). How?

2. Choose your interests the first time

Show suggestions, Add your own, your name, then tap the Start my journal bar at the bottom of the screen. How?

3. Put the app on your home screen

4. Write an entry by talking

Tap the red microphone at the bottom of the screen, beside Save Entry, and say what happened. How?

5. Add an entry with photos

6. Add an old memory

Use Month, Year, Decade or Unknown when you are not sure of the date. How?

7. Add something coming up

8. Find an old entry

Use the colour buttons, Narrow, or Search your diary. You can type, or tap the microphone in the search box and say a word. How?

9. Edit an entry

10. Move a photo, or add it to a second entry

Tap a photo, then Move to… or Also add to…. How?

11. Look back in the Calendar

Use ‹ and › to go to another month. How?

Overall

What did you use it on?

Tick all that apply.

Overall, how easy was it to use?
Was the writing a comfortable size to read?
Would you keep using it after the testing?

Hobbies, records, reminders to yourself… anything.

An error message, something that didn't save, a button that did nothing. What were you doing at the time?

Would you like…?

Some ideas we're thinking about. Tell us which would be worth having.

14. Swipe between an entry's photos

Open a photo from the Gallery or from an entry, then swipe left and right (or tap the arrows) to see the other photos of that entry.

15. Search the Calendar

At the top of the Calendar, type a word or tap the microphone and say it. Entries from every month appear; tap one to open it, and tap the x to go back to the months.

📍 Add place

Tap a button and the entry shows where you were, such as "Near Boondooma Dam". Only when you choose; nobody else sees it.

A trip diary booklet

Invite a friend

A button to send a friend a link so they can start their own diary.

Share an entry with family

⏰ Reminders on your phone

When the day of an Upcoming entry arrives (such as "Fertilise the corn"), your phone gives you a reminder.

About you (optional)

Only if you'd like a reply.

Your answers go only to John, who builds the app. You can send the form more than once.
